This is basically an intermediate step between the current web-app and full-blown native apps, and should address the main speed issues.
It would copy the essential day-to-day functionality from the current app (to-do list, adding tracker readings, viewing notes), and drop all the heavier stuff (goal map, reporting, graphs). This should cause a big performance boost, producing something very lightweight for day-to-day usage which can be distributed as a mobile app.
For carrying out anything not covered by this app (e.g. working with the Goal Map), the user would have to click a link which opens up the web-app as usual.
